Writing Competition

A writing competition supported by SHRA and the Sovereign Harbour Book & Creative Writing Group is now open for entries. 

Two Categories – Prose or Poetry. 
Subject - “The Harbour”. 
Prose Entries – 1000 words maximum – fiction or non-fiction. 
Poetry entries – 30 lines maximum. 
Age - Entrants must be over 18 years old. 
No AI - Entries must come from amateur writers and not make use of AI. 
Prizes - 1st, 2nd and 3rd cash prizes (£30, £20, £10) for both categories. 
Publication - Winning Prose and Poetry entries to be published in editions of Waterlines. 
The Judges - Dave Rogers (SHRA Chair), Carol Collier (SHRA Deputy Chair) and Alan Turner (Writing Group).  The judges' decision will be final. 
Closing date – Monday 3rd August 2026, 12 noon.

Entries SHOULD BE SUBMITTED UNDER A PSEUDONYM, and emailed as a separate, attached, PDF, Word or text file (the judges will not see your accompanying email) to: competition@shra.co.uk by the closing date. Alternatively, they may be left at The Yacht Club office or bar by the closing date, along with an attached, sealed envelope containing the writer's real name and contact details. Winners to be presented with their prizes at the SHRA AGM on 10 September 2026 at The Yacht Club.
